John Howard Counts, 83 of Scott City died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Dec. 22, 1936, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to John Wesley and Anna Sue Hendrix Counts. He married Bonnie Lou Roberts on June 17, 1972.
He was an engineer for the Cotton Belt Railroad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed the lives of his children and grandchildren. He loved baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, John H. Counts, Jr. of Marine, Illinois; daughters, Crissy (William) Keesee of Scott City, Darla (Nathan) Hart of Vancouver, Canada, and Donna Stacey of Medford, Oregon; brothers, Jerry Counts, James (Darlene) Counts and Dale Counts, all of Collinsville, Illinois; sister, Nina Mae Hill of Collinsville; grandchildren, Rory, Brittany, Austin, Abbey, Eli, Sawyer, Kristen, William and Hannah; and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Morse officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City with full military honors.
