John Comte

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- John J. Comte, 73, of Perryville, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 10, 1933, at Perryville, son of Leo and Mildred Taplan Comte. He and Ida Baggett were married June 20, 1966.

Comte was a union carpenter with Local 1739 of St. Louis and a farmer. He was a member of the National Guard, a Catholic and a member of the American Legion Booster Club.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, John Comte of House Springs, Mo., Michael Comte, Mark Comte, Kevin Comte and Joseph Comte, all of Perryville, and Steve Comte of Jacksonville, Texas; two daughters, Connie Schumer of Perryville and Doris Pitt of Paducah, Ky.; two sisters, Cathy Schumer and Yvonne Kearnes, both of Perryville; 27 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Hank Grocecki will officiate, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in Perryville.
