Funeral service for John C. Buerkle of Alton, Ill., will be held at 10 a.m. today at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton. Smith Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements. Funeral service for John C. Buerkle of Alton, Ill., will be held at 10 a.m. today at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton.

Smith Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.

Buerkle, 79, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1992, at his home.

He was born March 11, 1913, in Cape Girardeau. Buerkle received a bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University, and master's degree from Southern Illinois University. He was a state registered vocational counselor and psychologist.

Buerkle retired in 1978 as a psychologist for Roxana, East Alton and Wood River Elementary Schools, and East Alton and Wood River High School.

He served as consulting psychologist for Southwestern School District, Plasa and Tri-County Counseling Center, Carrollton. He was a past president of the Southern Illinois Psychological Association, and longtime member of local, state and national professional organizations.

Buerkle was a member of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., and had been a deacon and elder. He was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge 25 AF&AM in Alton, Scottish Rite Bodies of Southern Illinois, and Ainad Temple Shrine.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two sons, John Buerkle of Racine, Wis., James Buerkle of San Ramon, Calif.; two sisters, Margaret and Mary Buerkle of Kirkwood, and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.
