Dr. John Calvin "J.C." Bright, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at his home in Saxony Village.
He was born Oct. 21, 1933, in Bunker Hill, Illinois, to Calvin Russell and Alberta Mae Barnes Bright. He and Janice Moeckel were married July 16, 1952, in Jacob, Illinois.
J.C. served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He graduated with his doctorate of chiropractic studies degree at Logan Chiropractic College, and practiced in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, for 34 years.
While living in Ste. Genevieve for 40 years, he also was very active in the community. He was a former member of the Lions Club and charter and former member the Ste. Genevieve Jaycees, life member of VFW Post 2210 and American Legion Post 150, all in Ste. Genevieve.
The greatest joy of his life was being happily married to Janice for 63 years. J.C. was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Bright, of Cape Girardeau; six nieces and nephews, Vicky (Bill) Surman of Ste. Genevieve, Dr. Keith (Shelly) Moeckel of Perryville, Missouri, Toni (Duane) Moll of Cape Girardeau, Kim (Mark) Arbeiter of Waterloo, Illinois, Herbert (Kathy) Moeckel of Tunas, Missouri, and Jon (Blair) Moeckel of Kansas City, Missouri; and many great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Bright.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. John Dehne officiating. There will be a private interment at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be given to Lutheran Family and Children Services Memory Matters or the Alzheimer's Association St. Louis Chapter.
