CHARLESTON -- Joe McCray, 91, of Charleston, died Saturday, June 8, 1996, at his home.
He was born Nov. 14, 1904, in Greenville, Miss., son of John and Mahalia McCray. He and Martha Frazier were married Oct. 31, 1958. She died July 22, 1989.
Survivors include five sons, Joe McCray of Charleston, Robert and Richard McCray of Seattle, Wash., David McCray of Kansas City, Billy McCray of Clearwater, Fla.; five daughters, Rosemary Clark, Georgia Gillespie and Jettie Haynes of Charleston, Betty Betts of Kansas City, Etta Cosby of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Bette McCray of Greenville; 40 grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren, and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Ratliff officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
