Joe Champ Lewis, 88, of Gordonville died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girar-deau. He was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Gordonville, son of Joe G. and Anna Schrock Lewis. He was born on and lived his entire life on the family farm. He and Anna Westrich were married Oct. 30, 1945, at New Hamburg, Mo. She died Sept. 5, 1969. Joe Champ Lewis, 88, of Gordonville died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girar-deau.

He was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Gordonville, son of Joe G. and Anna Schrock Lewis. He was born on and lived his entire life on the family farm. He and Anna Westrich were married Oct. 30, 1945, at New Hamburg, Mo. She died Sept. 5, 1969. He later married Monica Steinnard Nov. 4, 1978, at Jackson.

Mr. Lewis was a prominent farmer in the Gordonville area. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson and its parish council. He was a past member of MFA Advisory Board, MFA delegate to the state meeting and MFA Oil Co. Board of Directors.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Howard Joe Lewis and wife Ellen of Jackson; a daughter, Mary Ann Poitras and husband Jack of Barnhart, Mo.; two grandchildren, Brent Lewis and Emily Lewis of Jackson; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Lewis in 1970; and a sister, Helen Lewis in 1970.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, with Monsignor Ed Eftink officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception School Building Fund.
