CHARLESTON -- Joe Farries, 84, of Charleston died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, at his home. He was born April 7, 1912, in Water Valley, Miss., son of Theo and Daisy Mae Reed Farries. He and Maebell Kelley were married Dec. 7, 1936. Farries was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church and served on the deacon and trustee boards. He was a member of Rough Ash Lodge AF&AM, member of Mississippi County Community Churches, and chaplain of the Ten Tall Ones Civic Club...

CHARLESTON -- Joe Farries, 84, of Charleston died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1996, at his home.

He was born April 7, 1912, in Water Valley, Miss., son of Theo and Daisy Mae Reed Farries. He and Maebell Kelley were married Dec. 7, 1936.

Farries was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church and served on the deacon and trustee boards. He was a member of Rough Ash Lodge AF&AM, member of Mississippi County Community Churches, and chaplain of the Ten Tall Ones Civic Club.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Albert Farries of Maywood, Ill., Joe Farries Jr. of St. Louis, Raymond and John Farries of Bellwood, Ill., Michael Farries of Atlanta, Ga.; seven daughters, Elizabeth Rodger of Evansville, Ind., Ethel Smith of Peoria, Ill., Ophelia Watson, Charla Gallion, Evelyn Mays and Mary Lane, all of Charleston, Flora Robinson of East Prairie; a sister, Daisey Harris of Mound City, Ill.; 40 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Church, with the Rev. Wiley Reed officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
