THEBES, Ill. -- JoAnn Sickler Wehmeyer, 87, of Thebes passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 5:55 a.m. at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born to Otis Oren and Addie May Jackson Sickler July 5, 1934, in Gale, Illinois. JoAnn was united in marriage to Melvin Raymond Wehmeyer on Dec. 20, 1952. THEBES, Ill. -- JoAnn Sickler Wehmeyer, 87, of Thebes passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 5:55 a.m. at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born to Otis Oren and Addie May Jackson Sickler July 5, 1934, in Gale, Illinois. JoAnn was united in marriage to Melvin Raymond Wehmeyer on Dec. 20, 1952. He preceded her in death July 27, 2006.

JoAnn was a homemaker and in her spare time enjoyed crocheting and embroidery, up to the last days of her life. She was a member of Alexander Freewill Baptist Church. Previously, JoAnn had attended Beech Grove Baptist Church, where she was active in the Cheerful Workers Group and Home Extension for many years.

Survivors include her son, Kevin Wehmeyer of Thebes; daughter, Sheila (Paul) Echols of Murphysboro, Illinois; three grandchildren, Shannon Dow, Jarrod Echols and Morgan (Allen) Dillow; four great-great-grandchildren, Isaac, Sarah, Ezra and Camilla; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, JoAnn was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Rodney; a granddaughter, Melonie Phillips; two sisters, Pauline Norris and Pearl Sickler; and three brothers, James, Neil and Shelby Sickler.

A celebration of life honoring JoAnn Wehmeyer will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Illinois, with the Rev. Sam Ramdial officiating and eulogy by Paul Echols. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that memorials be made to the Alexander Freewill Baptist Church. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
