Joann Patricia Leadbetter, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 29, 2020, at Southeast Hospital.
She was born Oct. 24, 1937, in Decatur, Illinois, to William T. and Dorothy Mae Vowell Joplin. She and Raymond L. Leadbetter were married June 11, 1977, in Cape Girardeau County. He preceded her in death Aug. 27, 2004.
Joann retired in 1993 from the University of Illinois.
She was a member of Christian Women's Club, Cape Senior Center and Rose of Sharon Gospel Singers. She volunteered at Southeast Hospital and Saint Francis Medical Center, Lutheran Home, Monticello House, Fountainbleau Lodge and Missouri Veterans Home.
She was a member and pianist of Southside Baptist Church. She sang and held devotional services at Lindenwood Apartments.
Survivors include her son, David Johnson of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Alsup of Anna, Illinois, Jalana Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Brian Johnson of Anna and Neal Miller of Anna; and great-grandchildren, Makayla Dobbs, Neveah Raymos, Kammi Raymos, Conner Johnson and Olivia Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Debbie Haynes.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon today at Southside Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at noon today at the church, with the Rev. Bill Joyce officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
