Betty JoAnn Emmons, 82, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at her home.
She was born May 7, 1933, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Alvin and Bertha Siebert Hoffmeister.
JoAnn was a member of the last class to graduate from the Central High School when it was in the old Schultz school building.
She worked as a nurse's aide throughout her life and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. In her later years, she was a babysitter and took great pride in spoiling her grandchildren.
Loving survivors include a son, Steven Emmons (Laura) of Marble Hill, Missouri, and a brother Bill (Julia) Hoffmeister of Cape Girardeau. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Troy, Abby, Gabriel and Chelsea; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Colton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ervin and Leonard Hoffmeister; a sister, Dorothy Woodward; and a daughter, Jennifer Scaggs.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Interment will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church or to Saxony High School.
