OAK RIDGE -- Charles "Jim" McCanless, 66, of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at his home. He was born Sept. 6, 1932, in New Berg, Ind., son of Willie G. and Agnes L. Dillander McCanless. He and Eulalia Volz were married Feb. 14, 1953. McCanless served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1973. He was a fireman and worked in air crash rescue...

OAK RIDGE -- Charles "Jim" McCanless, 66, of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at his home.

He was born Sept. 6, 1932, in New Berg, Ind., son of Willie G. and Agnes L. Dillander McCanless. He and Eulalia Volz were married Feb. 14, 1953.

McCanless served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1973. He was a fireman and worked in air crash rescue.

He and his wife moved to Oak Ridge in 1974. He was a member of Caney Fork Baptist Church and sang in the choir, and was a member of Cape Girardeau County Chapter of Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Suzette Lutton of Ellsinore, Janette McIntyre of Daisy; a son, Terry McCanless of Orlando, Fla.; six brothers, Bobby McCanless of Bridgeton, Dale McCanless of Leasburg, Elvis McCanless of Mountain Home, Ark., Tommy McCanless of Kewanee, Rocky McCanless of Brownwood, and Keith McCanless of Sikeston.

Also surviving are eight sisters, Billie Criddle of Oak Ridge, Juanita Goines of Poplar Bluff, Doris Adams and Betty Kinder of Sikeston, Patsy Criddle of Orlando, Linda Anderson of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Sandra Hupp of Sikeston, Kathy Grigsby of Morehouse; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Bob Bartholomew will officiate. Burial will be in Caney Fork Cemetery near Millersville.
