James C. "Jim" Harris, 77, of Jackson passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, at Advance Nursing Center in Advance, Missouri.

He was born April 27, 1943, in St. Louis to Roger "Hap" and Christine Settle Harris. He and Cheryl Harris were married April 29, 1966, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Their union was blessed with three children, Kim, Becky and Larry. As a family, they were active members of First Baptist Church in Jackson. They had been married 33 years, when Cheryl passed away July 12, 1999. Their son, Larry, preceded Cheryl in death Feb. 5, 1985.

Jim married Judy Cunningham Lewis on Oct. 27, 2000, in Portageville, Missouri. To Jim's family, Judy added her children, Randy, Dennis, Kim and Christina. Christina passed away June 2, 2008.

Jim was a 1961 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School. He attended Arkansas State University and enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard in 1964. He served honorably for more than 30 years, primarily in administration, with the National Guard units in Jackson and Cape Girardeau, retiring as a master sergeant in 1995.

Jim liked horseback riding, tournament fishing and riding four-wheelers, but above all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Loving survivors include his wife of 19 years, Judy Harris of Jackson; children, Kim (Jeff) Raley and children, Trevor and Kameron, of Frostburg, Maryland, Becky (Kevin) Thompson and children, Kylie, Gracie and Trace, of Farmington, Missouri; Randy (Cheri) Lewis of Pocahontas, Arkansas; Dennis (Bridget) Lewis IV and children, Dace, Joe and Vivian, of Wentzville, Missouri; Kim Jones and children, Kody and Kelli, and grandson, Kaysen, of Ripley, Tennessee, and sons of the late, Christina Cunningham, Heath and Hunter of Trenton, Tennessee; and a sister, Carol Sue (Harry) Mungle of Fredericktown, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Cheryl Harris; son, Larry Harris; parents; and stepdaughter, Christina Cunningham.

Visitation will be from noon to service time Saturday, Sept. 5, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept 5, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gus Wischmann, Benny Proffer, Larry Schott, Jim Winder, Paul Summers, Pete Townsend, Bruce Benton and Dave Hitt. Honorary pallbearers are Herman Erzfeld and Bob Weiss.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
