BENTON, Mo. -- Orland "Jim" Bollinger Jr., 73, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Southeast Hospital. He was born May 17, 1944, to Orland and Mary Jane Brock Bollinger and lived in Benton all of his life. BENTON, Mo. -- Orland "Jim" Bollinger Jr., 73, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born May 17, 1944, to Orland and Mary Jane Brock Bollinger and lived in Benton all of his life.

Jim attended Kelly High School and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in August 1966. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He later returned to the university to earn a degree in computer science.

Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1972.

On Dec. 24, 1966, Jim married Linda Glueck Bollinger in Denver. He is the proud father of son O.J. (Ashley) Bollinger III of Bertrand, Missouri, and grandfather of Hannah and Gage Pemberton and Tristan Vaughn.

When Jim was in high school, he spent summers helping out his parents and Aunt and Uncle Tirmenstein at Scott County Abstract Co. Occasionally, he went to Asheville, North Carolina, to bring school buses back to Ponder Chevrolet in Charleston, Missouri.

When Jim returned from proudly serving his country in 1972, he went to work full-time at Scott County Abstract. In 1987, Jim became vice president at Cape County Abstract and Title Co. and remained until his retirement in May 2014, after 42 years in the title business. He served as president of the Missouri Land Title Association from 2001-2002.

When Jim was not at work, he spent countless hours building scale models. He enjoyed life and had many hobbies and interests, including flying remote-control airplanes with SEMO Modelers Association and the Air Kings, boating at Kentucky Lake and riding his Harley Davidson. He enjoyed dirt track racing, fishing and wintering in Texas. In short, he enjoyed a full and active life.

Jim's genuine interest in others and his desire to do his best for each person he encountered brought him many true and dear friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Benton. A Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge service will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, with the Revs. Michael Casteel, David Dohogne and John Harth officiating. Burial will be at St. Denis Cemetery, with full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or a charity of choice.
