SIKESTON -- Jewell T. Allen, 95, of Sikeston, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was born Sept. 8, 1898, at Cave-in-Rock, Ill., daughter of John Herschel and Larrisa Herrin Tyer Sr. She and Olif A. Allen were married in August 1918 in Scott County. He died in 1972...

SIKESTON -- Jewell T. Allen, 95, of Sikeston, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 8, 1898, at Cave-in-Rock, Ill., daughter of John Herschel and Larrisa Herrin Tyer Sr. She and Olif A. Allen were married in August 1918 in Scott County. He died in 1972.

Allen was an elementary teacher 37 years, and then was head of the city welfare department for 20 years and also was executive secretary for Sikeston United Way. She was a member of Murray Lane Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Audrey Kelley of Sikeston; four grandsons, and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, brother and three sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Murray Lane Church. The Revs. C.D. Butler and Kelley Grubbs will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery here.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
