CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Jewell Irene Stephens, 87, of Chaffee died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Chaffee Nursing Center. She was born July 30, 1914, at Deering, Mo., daughter of John and Florence Jackson Alsup. She and Ralph Stephens were married Dec. 11, 1943, at Chaffee. He died Dec. 27, 1975...

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Jewell Irene Stephens, 87, of Chaffee died Monday, June 10, 2002, at Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born July 30, 1914, at Deering, Mo., daughter of John and Florence Jackson Alsup. She and Ralph Stephens were married Dec. 11, 1943, at Chaffee. He died Dec. 27, 1975.

Stephens was a secretary 28 years at Chaffee High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and P.E.O chapter at Chaffee.

Survivors include a son, Jim Stephens of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, James Alsup of Caruthersville, Mo.; a sister, Laura Wilbanks of Hayti, Mo.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 5 p.m. Thursday.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Marty Blakey will officiate.
