Jesse Elsworth "Jet" Rhymer, 93, of Scott City died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 21, 1920, in East Cape Girardeau, Ill., to James Rollie and Kathryn Elizabeth Knupp Rhymer. He married Barbara Belle Lance on July 28, 1945, in Cape Girardeau.

Jesse retired from Lone Star Cement Plant after working there for 30 years. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Scott City where he served faithfully as a song leader, Sunday school teacher and deacon. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945, when he was honorably discharged as a corporal.

He was proud to be a Christian, a World War II veteran, a husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed being with his family, going to church and "working on the place."

He is survived by his wife of 68 years; one son, Roger (LaVeda) Rhymer of Scott City; four daughters, Linda (Jerry) Moore and Patty Rhymer, both of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Anita (Jim) Lambert and Penny (Jamie) Davidson, both of Scott City; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and six brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of service today at Assembly of God Church in Scott City.

The funeral service will be at 7 p.m. today at the church, with the Revs. Randy Morse, Jerry Moore and Charles Lance officiating. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lightner Cemetery in Scott City with full military honors.
