Jerry William Woods, 80, passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, the result of Agent Orange and pulmonary hypertension, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 23, 1938, in Mound City, Illinois, son of Walter and Violet Buckles Woods. He and Carolyn Schoen were married Dec. 30, 1958. She survives in Jackson.
Other survivors include three sons, Gary (Judy) Woods of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Charles (Pam) Woods of Sycamore, Illinois, and Jerry (Donna) Woods of Festus, Missouri; two brothers, Michael and Larry Woods; a sister, Patsy Woods Dover; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry's life was full of distinguished accomplishments. He was a retired Air Force and Vietnam War veteran with over 20 years of service, with numerous awards and certificates. He was a deacon at First General Baptist Church, and a dedicated Veterans of Foreign Wars member of Cape Girardeau. Jerry was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He believed in the importance of family and his faith in Christ. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Pastor Jim Rudolph officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
