Jerry May

MORLEY, Mo. -- Jerry Carlton May, 86, passed away in peace at his home Thursday, March 3, 2022, surrounded by his children.

He was very proud to have lived his entire life in Morley. Jerry was born in "God's Country" -- as he always referred to Morley -- in 1935 to Jasper Creal and Clara Ella Carlton May.

The May family was a large and close family. He is survived by one brother, Don May, of Dexter, Missouri. He was proceeded in death by his parents; his brothers, Charles F., George and Tom May; and by his sisters, Molly May and Ellen Demko.

In 1956, while serving in the Air Force, Jerry eloped and married Glenda LaFern McDonald in Mississippi. Together, they raised four children in Morley. Later in life, he married Jill Dean Davis and then Glenna Dean Hudson. All three preceded him in death.

Jerry was a loving and devoted father to Keith (Tammy) May, Vera (Rick) Pobst, Jerra (Chris) Hutson and Jay (Lisa) May.

He was a proud PawPaw to Jarrod Pobst, Ashton (Corey) Duncan, Alec Hutson, Ryan May, Tatum May, Katelyn May and Ethan Hutson. He taught them many life skills. These included fishing (and how to kiss a fish), deer hunting, how to properly eat a watermelon (just the heart), the importance of knowing how to ride a horse and the adventure of hunting arrowheads.

Jerry was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, pecan sheller and professional fudge and crispy dog maker. After his retirement from automobile sales, he became a golf enthusiast and installed a private driving range at his home.

He was a friend to many and loved unconditionally. His smile, witty sense of humor, compassion for others, love of his community and positive influence will live on in those he loved.

A celebration of his life and visitation will be begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Morley First Baptist Church.

Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Internment will be at 2 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Citizens of Morley for a better community at P.O. Box 122, Morley, MO 63767 or to the SoutheastHEALTH Hospice at 10 Doctor's Park, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
