SEDGEWICKVILLE — Jerry Dean Ellis, 85, of Sedgewickville died Friday, April 5, 2024, at his home.
He was born May 23, 1938, in Sedgewickville to Franklin and Jewell Bollinger Ellis. He and Leona Ates Ellis were married by his great-uncle, Ed, on May 17, 1957, in Festus.
He served in the National Guard.
Jerry attended Sedgwickville Flatwoods Church as a child and then became a member of Sedgewickville United Methodist Church for 72 years.
He graduated from Patton High School. He was a cattle farmer, who raised hogs in his early years.
He was board director of Black River Electric for 30 years. He also served on Garden of Memories Cemetery board and served as a board member for Bollinger County Co-Op.
He was a member of Lions Club in Patton and Bollinger County Antique Tractor Club.
Jerry enjoyed restoring antique tractors as a hobby. He was especially proud of his work with the Bollinger County Co-Op, the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Black River Electric and Bollinger County Antique Tractor Club.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to Mercy Hospital Southeast Cancer Center and Hospice for their tremendous care of Jerry, as well as a sincere thanks to the caregivers who provided care and attention.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam (Ronald) Walther of Jackson; two sons, Gregory (Mary) Ellis and Bryan Ellis, both of Sedgewickville; brother-in-law, Wayne (Glenda) Kistner of Millersville; lady friend, Marcia Johnson, and family; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two sons, Patrick Ellis and Tony Ellis; and brother-in-law, L.B. Ates.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Ford and Liley Funeral Home in Patton.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 12, at the funeral home, with Pastor Alex Niswonger officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sedgewickville.
Memorial contributions may be given to Sedgewickville United Methodist Church or Garden of Memories Cemetery.
