Jean Mae Simpson LOUISVILLE, Colo. -- Jean Mae Simpson, 91, of Louisville and formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties in Louisville. She was born May 8, 1918, in Bridgeport, Okla., the daughter of Leroy and Elma Johnson Martin. She and Paul Simpson were married Dec. 31, 1942, at Corpus Christi, Texas. He died March 1, 2008...

LOUISVILLE, Colo. -- Jean Mae Simpson, 91, of Louisville and formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties in Louisville.

She was born May 8, 1918, in Bridgeport, Okla., the daughter of Leroy and Elma Johnson Martin. She and Paul Simpson were married Dec. 31, 1942, at Corpus Christi, Texas. He died March 1, 2008.

Jean attended the University of Chicago two years. She was vice president of the family-owned auto dealership in Cape Girardeau for many years. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a past member of the Ladies Garden Club in Cape Girardeau.

Jean enjoyed gardening, golfing and was a bridge player for much of her life. She and Paul were longtime members of the Cape Girardeau Country Club and loved spending afternoons on the golf course. She also loved traveling to Colorado for long visits with her parents and her grandchildren. She loved playing with her grandchildren most of all. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Survivors include a son, Paul "Dave" Simpson Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Victoria Jean Simpson and Dr. Thomas Johnson of Louisville, Colo.; a brother, L. R. Martin of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, Ariel Rene Simpson-Johnson, Paul Andrew Simpson-Johnson, and Katherine Elizabeth Simpson-Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Entombment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be given to Centenary United Methodist Memorial Fund.
