Jean Carolyn Garrett Dickey died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at her home in Jackson.
She was born Aug. 1, 1928, in rural Greene County, Mo. Her father, Carroll Garrett, and mother, Willie Daniel Garrett, preceded her in death.
She and Dr. F. Gregory Dickey were married Aug. 18, 1963.
Mrs. Dickey held degrees from Southwest Baptist University, Southwest Missouri State University and the University of Tulsa.
In 1965 she joined the faculty of Southeast Missouri State University and taught in the College of Business until her retirement in 1987.
Mrs. Dickey is remembered as an enthusiastic lover and grower of roses. In her retirement years she did extensive traveling. She will also be remembered as a deeply committed Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. F. Gregory Dickey of the home; a brother, Willard Lee Garrett of Ash Grove, Mo.; a niece, Kathy Bock of Ash Grove; nephews, David Garrett of Ash Grove and Jeffrey Garrett of Springfield, Mo.
A brother preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Jackson.
A celebration of life service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the church. The Rev. Carter Frey will officiate.
McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Southeast Missouri State University Foundation for the Jean Carolyn Garrett Dickey Scholarship.
