SIKESTON, Mo. -- Jess David "J.D." Schaffer, 75, of Sikeston died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in the Emergency Room at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born April 9, 1931, at Kewanee, Mo., son of James Clifford and Mary Magaline Roberts Schaffer. He and Corrine L. Moulder were married May 29, 1950, in Clay County, Ark.
Schaffer worked 30 years at Walter Dollinger Co. of St. Louis, and formerly managed Mike's Supply House in Sikeston. He managed Babe Ruth League baseball teams several years, was a member of First Assembly of God Church, had been a member of Sikeston Jaycees and was the 1965 general chairman of the Bootheel Rodeo. He was a member and former trustee of Sikeston Elks Lodge 2319.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Deborah Owens of Millersburg, Mo., Davene Schaefer of Sikeston; two brothers, James Schaffer of Advance, Mo., John Schaffer of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Jacquelyn Crews of Memphis; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ron Tate officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
