McCLURE, Ill. -- J.D. Pulley, 89, went to heaven Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at his family home in McClure surrounded by family members. He was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Salcedo, Mo., to Carrie Elizabeth Pack and William Pulley. He and Audrey James-Mayfield were married July 29, 1950, in Paragould, Ark. She preceded him in death July 23, 1998...

McCLURE, Ill. -- J.D. Pulley, 89, went to heaven Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at his family home in McClure surrounded by family members.

He was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Salcedo, Mo., to Carrie Elizabeth Pack and William Pulley. He and Audrey James-Mayfield were married July 29, 1950, in Paragould, Ark. She preceded him in death July 23, 1998.

J.D. entered the United States Army in January 1943. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was discharged with the rank of sergeant in November 1945. He was a caring, loving husband, father and grandfather.

He enjoyed working in his garden where he would frequently drive his tractor and savor the outdoors. He was a prolific cook and loved to can produce with his daughter. He was a lifetime member of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna, Ill.

Survivors include a loving daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Gene Myers of Jackson; a granddaughter and her husband, Lizzy and Kenny Stone of Scott City; a grandson, Jimmy Myers of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis, Earl and Ira Pulley; and four sisters, Margie Pulley Baughman, Georgie Pulley, Bertha Pulley Allen and Ethel Pulley Baughman.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Lindsey Cemetery at McClure with full military rites conducted.

Memorial contributions may be given to Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455.
