TAMMS, Ill. -- J.D. Lewis, 68, of Tamms died Sunday, April 13, 2014, in an automobile accident near Ullin, Ill.
He was born Aug. 13, 1945, in Taylorville, Ill., to Herbert Paul and Viola V. Fraley Lewis.
J.D. retired in 1994 after 30 years with Caterpillar in Decatur, Ill. He then moved to his farm in Alexander County at which time he became a truck driver. J.D. was very proud of this profession. He had taken all of his grandchildren with him to learn respect for all truck drivers. He had worked for Benny Owens, Steyer Seeds and FTS as a driver. He enjoyed raising cattle, hunting and fishing, and loved his black labs.
Survivors include his mother, Viola Lewis of Tamms; a daughter, Kari Justice of San Antonio; a son, James "Lane" (Valerie) Lewis Jr. of Pearl City, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Mallory Beamon and Devin Lewis of Ocean Springs, Miss., James Garrett Justice and Madelyn Justice of San Antonio; his fiancee, Christy Ledbetter of Tamms; many other relatives, cousins, friends; and former spouse, Judy Rhine.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bruce Clubb officiating. Interment will be in McCrite Cemetery.
