Janice Marie Meyer, loving mother of Nick and his wife Pamela Meyer, grams to her grandson Gabriel Meyer, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends Sunday, May 4, 2008.
Ms. Janie, as she was affectionally called by students and parents of her Cape Montessori School, was born March 17, 1946, to Thomas L. and Helen Meyer.
She led a very fulfilling life, dedicating her life to her family and friends, her faith and the children of the community. She touched many people in the area, especially her family.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and devoted many hours to furthering the lives of children. Her activities included: Esprit Optimist Club, Tour de Cape, DARE and Project Charlie. She was also a member of the Red Hat Caper Babes Society and a devoted friend to many she called family.
She founded the Cape Girardeau Montessori School in 1973. Since that time she has graduated more than 1,000 students who have gone on to lead successful lives.
Janice is survived by her father, Thomas L. Meyer; brothers and sisters, Mary Jean McIntyre, Thomas M. Meyer (wife Mary), David Meyer, Debbie Joyce, Beth McFerron (husband Alan) and Madonna Boyd (husband Ken).
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel. Parish prayers will be at 7.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Thomas Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Devon Edmonds, Alan McFerron, Ben Joyce, Chris Edmonds, Thomas N. Meyer and Brooks Sides. Honorary pallbearers will be Karen Drury, Joyce Johnson, Barb Barnard and Barbara Schwepker.
Instead of flowers, those wishing may send donations to the St. Louis Hope Lodge (ACS), 4215 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, Mo., 63108, in regards to Janice Meyer; or to Girl Scouts or Esprit Optimist Club.
