Janet L. Schaefer, 73, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at her home. She was born Dec. 24, 1941, in Patton, Missouri, to Walter K. and Jettie P. Seabaugh Mungle. She and William "Bill" Schaefer were married Nov. 7, 1970, at Patton. Janet has been retired 12 years after having worked in hospitals and factories. She was a volunteer at Cape Senior Center. Janet L. Schaefer, 73, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at her home.

She was born Dec. 24, 1941, in Patton, Missouri, to Walter K. and Jettie P. Seabaugh Mungle. She and William "Bill" Schaefer were married Nov. 7, 1970, at Patton.

Janet has been retired 12 years after having worked in hospitals and factories. She was a volunteer at Cape Senior Center. She was also a big St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Survivors include her husband, William "Bill" Schaefer of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Lisa J. (Chris) Scheffer of Gordonville and Lori B. (Jason) Merritt of Jackson; two brothers, Harry Mungle of Fredericktown, Missouri, and Sam Mungle of Scopus, Missouri; a sister, Ethyl Marshall of Wood River, Illinois; and four grandchildren, Dyllan and Colton Scheffer and Dalton and Tyler Merritt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Erik Alan Schaefer; a brother, Edward Mungle; and a sister, Loretta Welker.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Shupert officiating. Burial will be in Reagans Chapel Cemetery in Patton.

Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Hospital Foundation.
