COBDEN, Ill. -- Janet W. Anderson, 91, of Cobden died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at City Care Center in Cobden. She was born Feb. 8, 1907, at Cobden, daughter of Warren and Agnes Patterson Whelpley. She and Melvin C. Anderson were married in Cobden on Oct. 1, 1930. He died Aug. 11, 1979...

COBDEN, Ill. -- Janet W. Anderson, 91, of Cobden died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at City Care Center in Cobden.

She was born Feb. 8, 1907, at Cobden, daughter of Warren and Agnes Patterson Whelpley. She and Melvin C. Anderson were married in Cobden on Oct. 1, 1930. He died Aug. 11, 1979.

She was a retired schoolteacher with the Cobden School District.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Anna. She was also a 50-year member of the former Order of the Eastern Star in Cobden.

Survivors include a son, Harvey Anderson of Goreville; a brother, Henry Whelpley; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday until the funeral hour.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Ron Henwood will officiate, with burial in the Cobden cemetery.
