Jane B. Barks, 92, longtime resident of Cape Girardeau, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, in Jacksonville, Fla., while visiting her daughter.
Jane was known by many in Cape Girardeau as the "Mickey Mouse Lady," as she drove around with her "MICKOMOM" license plate. She had a large collection of Mickey Mouse memorabilia she loved to show to the children or anyone who wanted to see it. You were amazed when you entered her home; it was almost as good as Disneyland!
She was born May 15, 1921, in Mill Springs, Mo., to Samuel and Alta Blackwell. She attended Blodgett High School and Cape Business College (Metro Business College). She loved to work and held various jobs throughout her life, all the way to age 88.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Paul and Earl Blackwell.
She leaves behind to miss her: three daughters, Vicki Mauldin (Chip) of Jacksonville, Nancie Keys (Kevin) of Clearwater, Fla., and Mary Stucker (Charles) of Cape Girardeau; a son, Danny Barks (Darlene) of Jackson; and a younger brother, Joe Blackwell (Pat) of Cape Girardeau.
Jane was especially close to her granddaughter, Addie Stucker; her Florida granddaughter, Racquel Sanders; grandsons in Jacksonville, Sean (Kayla) and Shannon (Christy) Watkins and Dave (Lori) and Andy Mauldin. A new great-grandson had just joined the family in August, Adrien Watkins, and Jane was spending time in Jacksonville getting to know and love him. Sadly missing her (treats!) also are granddoggies Wesley and BB.
A memorial service will be held later this month at Fellowship Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
