James C. "Peto" Williams, 70, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born Dec. 27, 1940, in Tunica, Miss., to Osie and Cornilus Phifer Williams. He and Glenda Farrar Williams were married Dec. 5, 1969, at Cape Girardeau.

James was a U.S. Army veteran who was presented with the Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam.

He was the warehouse supervisor for Plaza Tire for more than 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Williams of Cape Girardeau; his son, Jamie (Catherine) Williams of Kadena Airbase, Japan; his daughter, Leslie Jo (Will) Elum of Amherst, Mass.; six brothers, Lee Williams, David Williams and Frank Williams, all of Cape Girardeau; Robert D. Williams of St. Louis, Charles L. Williams of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Osie Williams Jr. of Sparta, Ill.; eight sisters, Hattie M. (Poochie) Baker of St. Louis, Cornelia (Mop) Williams, Carolyn Williams, Susan B. (Anthony) Williams and Eddie Mae Whitaker, all of Cape Girardeau, Mary K. Williams of St. Louis, Viola Garner of Fairview Heights and Marilyn (the Rev. Ervin) Williams of Champaign, Ill; and one grandchild, Camryn Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ervin Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
