CHAFFEE, Mo. -- James A. Tyler, 76, of Chaffee passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at the family home.
Funeral services were Saturday afternoon at the Scott County Central High School gymnasium, with the Rev. Michael Woods officiating.
Jim was born Aug. 10, 1939, in Fornfelt to the late Ernest Clayton and Jennie Christina Sanders Tyler. He married Barbara Howell on Oct. 5, 1968, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Oran, Missouri, and the attendants were the bride's sister, Pat Uptain, and her late husband, John Uptain.
After graduating high school, Jim spent 10 years in the U.S. Navy, mostly as a flight-simulator instructor. Upon returning home, he drove for Valley Steel and then he became a brakeman and conductor for Union Pacific Railroad. He retired in 2000, but was not ready to stay at home, so he and his wife, Barb, traveled.
Jim then drove the school bus for Chaffee, Kelly and later Scott County Central schools. Life got even better when he became the scorekeeper for Scott County Central basketball. He considered the boys who played basketball as his other family and loved each and every one of them.
Survivors include his wife, Barb, of the home; his pride and joy, his children, a son, Clint (Courtnie) Tyler of Benton, Missouri; a daughter, Sabrina (Jason) Pobst of Oran; three brothers, Thomas (June) Tyler of Mesquite, Texas, Robert (Sue) Tyler of Scott City and Michael (Glyndia) Tyler of Columbus, Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Anna Ruth and Connor Pobst, Jonathon, Jada and Landry Kate Tyler, and Miranda and Carson Sadler.
Jim also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ada Hill and Mary Alice Tyler.
In lieu of flowers, Jim would like donations to be made to the Scott County Central High School Athletic Department.
The family would like to thank Southeast Hospice for all the kindness they have shown to us during this difficult time.
