MAKANDA, Ill. -- James I. Thorn, 80, of Makanda died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Ill.
He was born Dec. 5, 1920, at Hooker, Ark., son of Ira and Clema "Penny" Thorn. He and Georgia Helen Livers were married May 29, 1942.
Thorn was licensed with the Living Word of Faith Fellowship Church in Panama City, Fla., and had worked as a missionary and church builder in Haiti and Mexico. He had retired as a bridge construction superintendent from the Illinois Department of Transportation. Thorn served during World War II, and was a prisoner of war. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the VFW, and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Ron Thorn and Terry Thorn of Makanda, Gary Thorn of Herrin, Ill., and Larry Thorn of Anna, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Anna from 5-8 p.m. Friday.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ebenezer Hall Cemetery in Lick Creek, Ill., with military honors from the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455.
