JAMES THOMAS

MOUNDS, Ill. -- James Thomas, 83, of Mounds, Ill. died Aug. 13, 1992 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 6, 1909 in Mable, Miss., son of Berry and Lucy Jackson Thomas.

On Nov. 1, 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army. On Oct. 31, 1948, he was discharged with an honorable discharge. He was employed as a police officer for the city of Mounds, Ill.

He is survived by six sisters, Lorine Thomas, Woodland, Miss., Emma Mimms, Memphis, Tenn., Marie Townsend, Tupelo, Miss., Essie Reed, Woodland, Miss., Mildred Borden and Ruby Davison, both of Manteen, Miss.; four brothers, Eddie Thomas, Pulaski, Ill., Elijah Thomas, Tupelo, Miss., William Thomas and Willie Thomas, both of Manteen, Miss.

One sister preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Algee Memorial Chapel, Inc. in Cairo, Ill. The Rev. Luther Lawrence will officiate. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill.
