SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- James Carl Sprinkle Jr., 81, of Scott City, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau where he had lived since January.

He was born Sept. 9, 1918, at Parma, Mo., son of James Carl Sprinkle Sr. and Clara May Pinder.

He worked as a conductor on the Cotton Belt Railroad for many years. He had also owned and operated G.D. Sauer Butcher Shop.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a staff sergeant with a medical unit stationed in Iceland.

He was a member of Illmo Methodist Church in Scott City and served as treasurer and chairman of the board of trustees. He was a member of H.O. Grauel Masonic Lodge, the Mark Twain Society and the United Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of St. Louis. He attended Southeast Missouri State University.

Survivors include a special friend, Wanda Flynn of Scott City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jim Woeltje officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
