ESSEX, Mo. -- Funeral for James D. "Jimmy" Smith of Essex will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Mo. The Rev. Gerald Beam will officiate. Burial will be in Dudley Cemetery at Dudley, Mo.

Smith, 47, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at his home.

He was born June 29, 1954, at Parma, Mo., son of Burl and Maudie Maye Davis Smith.

Smith lived in the Dexter and Essex areas all his life. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Dexter.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include three daughters, Tammy James of Texas, Constance Smith and Cheryl Smith of Malden, Mo.; five brothers, Fred, Jonia and Lloyd Smith, all of Dexter, A.J. Hart of Clarksville, Ark., Floyd Smith of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; four sisters, Faye True, Edith Frazier and Jean Burnett, all of Dexter, Martha Keys of Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, four brothers, and two sisters.
