Graveside service for James Ross Shade Sr. of St. Louis will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Fairmount Cemetery. The Rev. Roger Christiansen will officiate.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Friday.
Shade, 83, died Monday, July 20, 1998, at his home.
He was born Nov. 7, 1914, in Cape Girardeau, son of Ross Luther and Cora May Blyes Shade. He first married Evelyn Meyer in 1932 in Cape Girardeau. She died Dec. 6, 1936. He later married Irese Borron Oct. 21, 1946, in St. Louis.
Shade was a graduate of Central High School. He moved from Cape Girardeau in 1937.
He was a bus driver 28 years with St. Louis Public Service Co., which later became Bi-State Development Agency, retiring in 1978. He also worked part time in real estate more than 40 years.
Shade was a member of the Church of God, and Meridian No. 2 Masonic Lodge AF&AM in St. Louis.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jim Shade Jr. of St. Louis; a daughter, Jo Ann Shade of California; a sister, Earle Francis Gumm of California; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister.
