James L. "Jim" Scholl, 75, of Jackson passed away Friday, July 15, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 26, 1936, in Cape Girardeau, son of Rudolph E. and Martha F. Hoehn Scholl. He and Carol A. Ervin were married July 11, 1958, in Cape Girardeau.
Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps from Sept. 1, 1954, to Aug. 31, 1957.
He spent 43 years as an engineer on river barges, retiring in 2000. He was last employed by Western Kentucky Navigation of Paducah. Jim was a member of Jackson Elks Lodge and Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson. Being an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, even larger game on the western slopes.
Loving survivors include his wife of 53 years; a son, Patrick Scholl; a granddaughter, Vanessa; and a great-grandson, Bently, both of Marble Hill, Mo.; and a beloved cousin, Albert (Peggy) Lowes of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a twin sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An Elks service will be held at 7, followed by a memorial service with Chaplain Greg Heinsman officiating.
The family suggests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the church or charity of your choice.
