James R. Rathert, 60, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 13, 1945, in St. Louis, son of Lloyd F. and Dorothy L. Kercheval Rathert.
Rathert served in the Navy and was employed by the U.S. Post Office Distribution Center in Cape Girardeau for 10 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 3838, Eagle Aerie 3775, American Legion Post 63 and the Elks. He was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and moved to Cape Girardeau from Kirkwood, Mo.
Survivors include a son, James R. Rathert Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Judy C. Gasper of Sun Prairie, Wis., Joan E. Venegoni of Merrimack, N.H.; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Chapel.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Greg Heinsman officiating.
