PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- James E. "Sonny" Rankin, 73, of Perryville died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at his home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1930, at Claryville, Mo., son of Joseph and Gladys Lesch Rankin. He and Jaunita Sauer were married Nov. 12, 1955.
He was a truck driver for Sutterer Oil Company. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post 133 and the VFW. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Rankin and Michael Rankin, both of Perryville; four daughters, Rita Lewis of North Carolina, Lori Rankin of Perryville, Nancy Phillips of Arnold, Mo., and Carol Chadwick of Festus, Mo.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. on Monday and from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. A Catholic wake will be at 7 p.m. Monday; a VFW wake will be at 7:15 p.m. Monday; and an American Legion wake will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The rosary will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery with graveside military services provided by American Legion Post 133.
