JAMES R. DOWNS SR.

Funeral service for James R. Downs Sr. of Herculaneum was held Tuesday at Vinyard's Hillcrest Funeral Home in Pevely. The Rev. Ronald Rubbelke officiated, with burial in Herculaneum Cemetery.

Downs, 71, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1992, in Herculaneum.

He was born Jan. 13, 1921, in Paragould, Ark., son of William C. and Maude Ferguson Downs. He married the former Ann Vaughn.

Downs was a retired welder with General Metals Co. He was a member of VFW Memorial Post 3777 and American Legion Post 253. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janet Johnson of Imperial, Peggy Cartee of Herculaneum; two sons, James Downs Jr. of Hematite, Gerald Downs of Flat River; three sisters, Mary Graham and Lillian Kuss of Cape Girardeau, Cathleen Hastings of Poplar Bluff; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
