James M. Haynes Sr., 76, of 1637 Oak Hills Drive, died Saturday, May 24, 1997, at his home.
He was born Sept. 26, 1920, at Bloomfield, son of Henry Nelson and Stella M. Cartwright Haynes. He married Alma Mae Newell on July 21, 1945. in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death Jan. 25, 1988.
Haynes worked for White Cross Laboratories. Later, he worked for Kimbel-Delta and ABF Truck Lines for 23 years. He was an auditor with the State of Missouri for 26 years, retiring in June 1987.
He was in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau where he was a deacon and taught Sunday school.
Survivors include two sons, James M. Haynes, Jr., of Mehlville and Bradford N. Haynes of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Addie L. Vancil of St. Louis and Jean Gerhardt of Asheville, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel with the Rev. John Owen officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
