SCOTT CITY -- Funeral mass for James L. Owens of Scott City will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Pat Wissman will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City. A joint parish prayers and KC service will be held at 7:30.

Owens, 59, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 28, 1935, at Fornfelt, son of William Riley and Alma Coomer Owens. He and Laverne Schaefer were married April 14, 1956.

Owens was a chief engineer 30 years with Orgulf Transport Co., retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and its Men's Club, and Knights of Columbus Council 6420.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Richard Owens of Oak Harbor, Wash.; a daughter, Karen Uelsmann of Scott City; a brother, Morris Owens of Jackson; a sister, Geneva Miskell of Scott City, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson.
