James Frederick Hennig, 91, of Jackson, died Sunday, April 1, 2018, at his home.

Jim was born June 2, 1926, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the son of Fred and Norma Hennig. He married Jeannette Lind in 1950 and she preceded him in death. He and Patricia Bretzel Maring were married Feb. 10, 1980.

He graduated from St. John's College and received his master's degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. After being ordained as a minister, he served at the following churches: Grace Lutheran in Cisco, Texas; Pilgrim Lutheran in Houston; Salem Lutheran in St. Louis; and Pilgrim Lutheran and Chicago Uptown Ministry in Chicago. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia Hennig of Jackson; three daughters, Norma (Rick) Breiding of Denver, Linda (Ray) Schwartz of Sebastian, Florida, and Evelyn (David) Chaveriat of Shanghai, China; two stepsons, Christopher Maring and Kevin (Tara) Maring of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Hennig, and a sister, Jean Meimerstorf.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. April 28 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Mike Malone officiating.

Memorials may be made to Southeast Hospice or St. Mark Lutheran Church.
