OLMSTED, Ill. -- James Frederick Higgins, 91, of Olmsted died Saturday, Feb. 28, 1998, at the Meridian Manor Nursing Home in Mounds.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1907, at Grand Chain.

He was a retired construction laborer. He was of the Baptist denomination.

He married Stella Frances Mosley on April 9, 1923, at Portageville, Mo. She died on May 9, 1990.

Survivors include two daughters, Hazel Black of Lubbock, Texas, and Shirley Hanson of Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers, Virgil Higgins of Bluford, S.C., and Robert Higgins of South Bend, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, two sons and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5to 8 p.m. Monday at the Caledonia Baptist Church at Olmsted.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The Rev. Verlee Eaker will officiate, with burial to follow in the Chapel Cemetery in rural East Ullin.

Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
