James O. Evans Jr., 63, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 25, 2017.

He was born Sept. 27, 1953, in Farmington, Missouri, to James and Betty Jean Jackson Evans Sr. He and Michelle Evans were married Feb. 14, 1984, at Park Hills, Missouri. She survives and resides in Farmington.

James was a graduate of Farmington High School and graduated from Mineral Area College with an associate degree in drafting. He was a self-employed contractor.

Survivors include life companion of eight years, Carol Christopher of Cape Girardeau; five daughters, Ashley Evans of Cape Girardeau, Brandi Johnson of New York, Laura Wright of Cape Girardeau, Amy Coleman of Cape Girardeau and Erin Bradley of Cape Girardeau; four sons, Sean Evans of Austin, Texas, Noah Winch of Farmington, Matthew Wright of Farmington and Nathan Wright of Farmington; five brothers, Pierre Evans of Forrest City, Arkansas, Lance Evans of Africa, Keith Evans of Atlanta, Charles Evans of Farmington and Courtney Evans of Farmington; a sister, Donna Belle of Atlanta; and 15 grandchildren, Rianna Anthony, Octaevion Anthony, Temarvion Anthony, Jaron Magaña, Honovi Johnson, Ziva Johnson, Kayla Hueghey, Noah Wright, Mason Wright, Brenna Evans, Dylan Wright, Karsyn Wright, Keliegh Wright, Kendall Wright and William Meador.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Matt Christopher; and a sister, Marti Evans.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to Ford and Sons to help defray funeral expenses.
