THEBES, Ill. -- James Chester Elliott, 58, of Thebes died Monday, June 19, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion, Ill.

He was born Sept. 28,1947, in Cairo, Ill., son of James Chester and Mary Alberta Sands Elliott Sr. He married Paula Wolford.

Elliott received a degree in engineering from St. Mary University in San Antonio, Texas. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served two years of active combat in Vietnam.

After his discharge from the military, he went to Casper, Wyo., where he was employed with Burlington Northern Train Line until retiring in 1994.

He moved to Missouri in 2000 and lived in Sikeston until moving to Thebes in 2004.

Survivors include his wife; mother of Sikeston; and a sister, Regina Medley of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston, Mo., with Mike Gunter officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by Missouri Military Honor Guard.

McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
