SIKESTON -- James Eugene Drake Sr., 49, Sikeston Route 1, died Monday, Aug. 26, 1996, in an automobile accident near Morehouse.
He was born Aug. 25, 1947, in Canalou, son of Doyle Eugene "Gene" and Mary Frances Carter Drake. He and Jo Ann Basinger were married Aug. 21, 1991, in Dyersburg, Tenn.
Drake was owner/operator of Drake's Garage in Morehouse. He was a member of Sikeston Eagles Aerie 3319, American Veterans Chapter 149 and Disabled American Veterans in Sikeston. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Drake Jr. of New Madrid, Christopher Drake of Sikeston; a daughter, Shoniti Adkins of Essex; his mother of Canalou; two brothers, Larry Drake of New Madrid, Ricky Drake of Canalou; two sisters, Barbara Polk and Debbie Schuerenberg of Matthews; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Mike Cartwright officiating. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery at Matthews.
