MOUND CITY, Ill. -- James D. Davis, 93, of Mound City died Saturday, May 10, 2014.
He was born Feb. 21, 1921 in Arlington, Kentucky, the son of Johnnie and Mary Hutson Davis. He married Sarah Koen on June 7, 1942. She preceded him in death Sept. 9, 2012.
James proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2649 in Cairo, Illinois, where he served many years on the funeral honors team.
He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and resident of Mound City, where he served as city alderman for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Union Local 363 in Belleville, Illinois.
He is survived by two daughters, Judy Buckles of Mound City and Sharon (Ray) Miller of O'Fallon, Illinois; six grandchildren, Denise Austin, James Miller, Kathie Ross, Shawn Miller, Alice Morgan and Kim Tucker; 20 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Willie Bea Koen of Paducah, Kentucky; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah; his parents; six siblings, Dorothy Kesee, Helen Fitzgerald, Frances Warden, Jack Davis, Walter Davis and Eller Davis; and a son-in-law, Lewis Buckles.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crain Funeral Home in Cairo with a rosary service at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with George Bell officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in the Mound City National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery in Mounds, Illinois, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
