JACKSON, Mo. -- James Lester Davenport, 78, of Jonesboro, Ark., formerly of Jackson, Mo., died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his residence. Davenport had lived in Jonesboro for 45 years after leaving Jackson. He was a retired professor at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. JACKSON, Mo. -- James Lester Davenport, 78, of Jonesboro, Ark., formerly of Jackson, Mo., died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his residence.

Davenport had lived in Jonesboro for 45 years after leaving Jackson. He was a retired professor at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea, and a member of the American Legion, VFW and USS Graffias AF 29 Association.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Davenport of Jonesboro; a brother, Edward Davenport of Fayetteville, Ark.; a stepson and two stepgrandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with military rites.

Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.
