CAIRO, Ill. -- James D. Cox, 72, of Cairo, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1993, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born June 18, 1921, in Cairo, son of James D. and Ruth Boyle Cox.
Cox formerly owned Cairo Laundry, and was a former sales manager with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and Pete Thomas Ford.
He was a member of Cairo Baptist Church, where he had been in the choir and on the advisory board. He was past president of Cairo Rotary Club, past exalted ruler of Cairo Elks, past national chaplain of the Elks, and formerly served on the Cairo Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; a daughter, Jami Feezor of Paducah, Ky.; three sons, Bayne Cox of Reidland, Ky., J. Michael Cox of Evansville, Ind., K. Patrick Cox of Wickliffe, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Dawn Hassinger of Sikeston, Mo.; a stepson, James Hassinger of Ft. Knox, Ky.; a sister, Jean Karacher of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Cairo Baptist Church. The Rev. Larry L. Potts will officiate, with burial in Mound City National Cemetery.
There is no visitation. Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
