James William Criddle, 91, of Whitewater died Monday, July 18, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Cape Girardeau to William Smith and Verda Irene Stroder Criddle.

He and Doris Owens were married June 17, 1948, at Cape Girardeau.

James was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

He was a lifetime farmer and moved to Whitewater from Cape Girardeau in 1951. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Criddle of Whitewater; son, James S. (Kathy) Criddle of Millersville; daughter, Jane (Jim) Bowers of Whitewater; brother, Dewey (Joyce) Criddle of Rock Falls, Illinois; five grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son and daughter-in-law, John Clifford and Susan Criddle; brother, Eugene Criddle; sister, Mary Janice Fadden; and granddaughter, Angela McDaniel.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or school.
